21^st Century Art is committed to imparting a forum of diversity for creativity and expression. We aspire to empower artists by affiliating each with an audience. Additionally we hope to cultivate the desire for thought provoking original art in the general public by making it easily accessible.

Every living thing exhibits pattern in either growth or habit. Any subject is acceptable for study, any technique or material acceptable for making a new form. In the tremendous flux of experiences, there is only one thing which has ever brought me a moment of peace - drawing and painting from life. I have never been able (because my work is so categorically realistic) to reject recognizable subject matter. As much as the process of manipulating materials creates the actual work, an emotional or intellectual homage to subject persists in me. There is undoubtedly a narrative, but I specialize in making marks on a surface rather than words on a page. Having said all this, the ironic truth is that the most satisfying pictures I make are as inscrutable as the subjects that inspire them.

I've been a professional artist, commercial illustrator, and art teacher for over 33 years. I earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of Colorado and a Masters in Art Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. I do both watercolors and drawings on commission or for publication, exhibition, and sale. I've exhibited in a variety of museums, public exhibitions, and galleries in San Francisco, Denver, Palo Alto CA, London UK, Woodstock NY, the Easton Waterfowl Festival, Washington DC, and other smaller public art shows. As you can see, my work is an eclectic mix of realistic, abstract, and non-objective content that derives from my life experience and a variety of different inspirations and my mood at the time I created it.

When I delve into creating one of my mixed media extravaganzas, I use a “blind eye” and an inner force which guides my hand to arrange, glue, paint, assemble, cut, tear, etc. until what I see excites me. Each material offers different possibilities of expression. I love putting them together to make something entirely original Only if my work is charged by gut reactions, I can create something new and fresh and original. If it excites me, I know it will excite the viewer

My artistic goal is to bridge the gap between the temporal and the ethereal realms by interpreting visually what can only be characterized as an intuitive rhythm. The immaterial is the conduit with which I intend to evoke a deep introspective posture that is sometimes elusive within the constraints of modern society. My purpose is a singular encounter with each composition.

In the pursuit of artistic mastery, the realization of one’s own contribution to the celebration of life, these paintings are a collage framed in intellectual and emotional interpretations of experiences transfigured through physical gestation, manifesting in contrast and composition. Drawings are a personal exercise to master the tonal undulations of light cascading over recognizable volumes of space, capturing an individual moment in time by means of the most simplistic of mediums; pencil and paper.
